Insaaf Morcha and Sikh groups demand decision from Punjab Court on Kotkapura Sacrilege Case

Earlier, on December 1, Insaaf Morcha members demanded the resignation of Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan after the state government had failed to make a decision on the 2015 bargari sacrilege case.
Looking back, On October 14, 2017, while attending the 7th anniversary of the police firing incident, Sandhwan had sought 45 days and had announced that justice would be delivered by November 30, failing which he had promised to resign and join the protesters.
Sukhraj Singh, the son of a victim in the Behbal Kalan incident, claimed that despite the SITs’ attempts to convey that they are investigating the incidents after repeatedly recording the statements of numerous witnesses over more than seven years, both the Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing incidents.
To appease the demonstrators, they are urging inquiries, but they don’t seem eager to see them through. According to Sukhraj Singh, the state government wants to stretch out the situation while also seeming as though it is serious so that no resolution can be achieved.
The three-member SIT comprises IGP Naunihal Singh, SSP Satinder Singh and Swarandeep Singh, which recorded statements of some witnesses and head, IGP Naunihal Singh issued a statement saying that investigation is yet to get completed.
Former IG PS Umranangal offers support for investigation in Kotkapura Sacrilege Case
In the course of time, many political leaders made various statements – some denied their involvement in the case, some tried to offer a political move, and some tried to mold the facts of the case.
However, many police officers, including former IG Paramraj Singh Umranangal, have offered their support in the investigation process. Former IG PS Umranangal even agreed for a lie detector test. He believes that the victims deserve justice and the firing case must be thoroughly investigated without political interference.
Families of victims still grieving and losing faith in government for 2015 Bargari Sacrilege Case
The Sikh Groups are asking for a quick decision of the Kotkapura sacrilege case. Seven years after two Sikh men were killed in police fire at Behbal Kalan, their families are still grieving . Because of their loss of faith in the government, the victim’s family is keen on taking aggressive action. He has enlisted the help of Sikh groups active in Punjab.
